OUR STORY

Out of the love of cooking and the company of family and friends there was a dream of opening a restaurant. The Blackbird dream started simply as Truck Pizza. Truck Pizza was a mobile woodfire oven that went from event to event throughout the summer, making pizza for festival goers and vendors. We were humbled by the response received from the people we proudly fed. Many asked, “Where is your restaurant?” This question and the return admirers kept us going from year to year motivating us to add more events and catering to our calendar.

At one event, Casey served an old friend, Jon Swegarden, a pizza. Jon came back several times that same weekend toting different family members and telling them “You gotta try this.” After much stalking, Jon convinced Casey they needed to open a restaurant. They set their sights on downtown Fargo and secured and swooped into the 206 North Broadway location.

The foundation of Blackbird Woodfire is our artisan pizza. Handmade pizza dough made from only North Dakota wheat and milled flour. Years of testing has gone into refining and creating Blackbird’s pizza dough, establishing the perfect base to showcase seasonal, locally grown produce and herbs. Our tapas, salads and craft beer will further satisfy your taste buds.

We are locals that love the area. We have a deep appreciation for the commitment it took to settle this area and prosper. We strive to embody the spirit that settled this land: commitment to community, dedication to family & friends and an unwavering work ethic. The pioneering spirit that settled this area is the same that has gone into building Blackbird Woodfire. We are family, friends, food and community.

Just as the farm moms kept the farm hands fed, we will feed the people of the prairie. There is always room at the table for more…more friends and more food.
